IT WAS a warm welcome to two new starters in our Ladies Tuesday Social and Beginners golf. Keep them coming all you girls out there wanting to learn to play, no matter what your standard.

It was a small field competing on Thursday for the Melanie's Jewellers Ladies Monthly Medal and 3rd Golf NSW Medal.

The numbers were a little depleted due to inclement weather early in the day, with a slight drizzle coming down as we unpacked our golf bags.

Not to be daunted, six golfers set off to take on the course and the weather, the latter of which ultimately cleared which seems to be the way of the Scone climate these days!

The Monthly Medal winner was Julie Leckie, with a stroke round of 89 and 73 nett, with Kerry McLennan runner up with a nett of 74. Ball winners were Kerry McLennan with 34 stableford points and Sharon Constable visiting from Maitland with 30 points.

Our novelty event on the day of Count Your Putts for the Wine O'Clock Trophy was won by Dordie Bragg with a great round of 25 putts over 18 holes so was unlucky not convert this into an overall medal winning score, however she was all smiles returning home with a bottle of red wine tucked in her golf bag.

Our Thursday competition on 18 July is an Individual Stableford playing for the Jo Brown Trophy, in addition to which there will be bit more fun to be had playing the inaugural Coloured Ball Team Challenge which is conjunction with the Individual Stableford event.

This Saturday the Scone Golf Club men played for the annual Herb Tilse trophy, a historic cup awarded to the best gross score over 18 holes of stroke play. There were a number of serious contenders for the title including some visitors from Aberdeen and Muswellbrook but Justin Smart put together a great round of two over par to take the prize.

This was the first Stroke round played off the Blue tees at the new course and most golfers enjoyed the challenge, there were some cricket scores, but there was also some very good golf played by the 9 golfers who broke par.

Best Nett score for the day and winner of the July Monthly Mug was Brenan Reeves, with a 5 under par 67, he obviously likes the course playing long and difficult.

B Grade winner was Clayton Rogers with a 74 and C grade was won by David Adams who carded a great score of 69. Matt O'Donnell won nearest the pin on 8/17 and Justin Smart on 4/13.

Ball winners were Justin Smart 68, Kevin Thompson 70, Greg Parkinson (a visitor from Manilla Golf Club), Matt O'Donnell, Lindsay Hodge, Geoff Barton 71, Matt Hobbs, Scott Collins (a visitor from Muswellbrook) 73 and Robert Baker (a visitor from Aberdeen) 74.

Next week we are back to the White tees with the Scott Reid trophy, a single Stableford event. Sporties is now open Wednesday to Sunday so the tee time registration sheet has been moved from the RSL to the golf club noticeboard.
